  • Managed a packaging organizational of 42 people (Industrial Design, Engineering, Publications, and Program Management) with a budget over $3 million.  Mission is to support all Amazon devices and accessories NPI programs and help drive cost savings initiates that have positive impact to the bottom line. Provide cross functional visibility of design decision impacts on performance and costs. Develop new designs or conducting Redesigns focused on the customer experience, total savings, and improved processes that meets operational goals and overall ID intent. Branded product packaging include: Kindle E-Readers, Fire Tablets, Fire TV, Echo products, Dash Button, along with all Kindle branded accessory packaging.
  • Lead a team in launching over 193 product and accessories (representing over 5000 domestic and international SKUs)

Achievements

  •  Drove new E-reader light weight packaging that resulted high consumer experience ratings and saw over $5 million in material and logistics savings.
  •  Created a training class and board game called Packopoly which teaches the cross function dependencies and challenges of packaging within the product development cycle. Trained over 5% of the Lab126 division and achieve outstanding survey scores from participates. 
  •  E-reader packaging master case size reduction resulting in logistics savings of $11.9 million over 2 years
  •  Printed paperboard sleeve conversion to Litho corrugated resulting in $1.8 million in materials savings.
  •  Conversion from wood to light weight foam pallet on air shipments resulted in $6.8 million logistics savings over 6 years or an averages yearly savings of $1.13 million.
  •  Removed un-necessary test allowing for more efficient e-reader package design resulting in approx. $6 million logistics and material savings ($0.78/unit air and $0.27/unit sea)
  • Drove conversion from device cling film to OPP bag across e-reader and tablet family resulting in material cost saving of $13.6 million over a 6 year period.

1989 - Began working for an electronics manufacturer (Hewlett-Packard) as the corporate packaging engineer and rose to the level of global packaging engineering design program manager.
